OUR MISSION

Our mission is to walk alongside men seeking freedom from addiction to Christ, providing a safe space and personalized programs for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual transformation.

Our why

THE PROBLEM:
It is highly unlikely that someone can recover and break free from addiction without access to transitional housing. Research shows that when individuals in recovery are not given enough time to assimilate and apply sober living principles, the chances of relapse increase to more than 80%Addiction GroupAddiction Group. General relapse rates for addiction are between 40% and 60%, with over 80% of people relapsing within the first yearAddiction Group. Additionally, housing instability significantly heightens the risk. Around one-third of homeless individuals struggle with substance use disorders, and those without stable housing face even greater challenges in maintaining sobrietyAddiction Group. Providing transitional housing is therefore a critical factor in reducing relapse and supporting long-term recovery. https://www.addictiongroup.org/resources/treatment-statistics/

THE SOLUTION: Many of the men we serve at Souls Harbor come to the program not only struggling with addiction but also facing the impact of homelessness, which is often a result of their addiction. While not all of our residents are homeless, the majority are. Souls Harbor provides them with safe, secure, and stable housing, along with an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as they work through our year-long program. This program is designed to help them heal, rebuild their lives, and address the interconnected challenges of addiction, homelessness, and mental health.

THE RESULT: Upon completing the comprehensive Souls Harbor program, the men are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and faith needed to reintegrate into the community as responsible citizens and committed disciples of Christ. They emerge from the cycle of addiction with newfound confidence, stability, and a strong foundation in their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. By addressing not only addiction but also homelessness and mental health, our program empowers them to live sober, purposeful lives, contributing positively to society and maintaining lasting recovery. Through personalized care, life-skills training, and spiritual growth, these men are prepared to lead fulfilling lives, free from the destructive patterns of their past.

1
Approximately 40% of homeless individuals report struggling with substance abuse(Ballard Brief, SAMHSA Store.) This highlights the deep connection between addiction and homelessness.
2
Around 33% of homeless individuals do not have access to necessary substance abuse treatment services (SAMHSA Store). This indicates a significant gap in care for this vulnerable population.
3
Men account for about 60% of the homeless population in the U.S. (Ballard BriefSAMHSA Store.)
4
Shockingly, only about 10% of the 21 million Americans with substance use disorders receive the treatment they need (SAMHSA Store.)
5
Nearly 65% of the 2.3 million individuals incarcerated in American prisons and jails meet the criteria for substance use disorders(Ballard Brief, SAMHSA Store.)
6
The relapse rate for substance abuse disorders is approximately 50%, showing the difficulty of maintaining sobriety without adequate support (SAMHSA Store.)

OUR process

Rescue

We provide a safe space for all, while ensuring the well-being of our community by accepting only applicants who have been sober for at least 30 days and have completed a drug or alcohol treatment program. Applicants will then undergo a background check, in-person interview, and drug/alcohol screening.

Restore

Upon acceptance to Souls Harbor, residents will secure gainful employment or pursue full-time education. They will also participate in life-skills classes, case management, professional counseling, Bible studies, and weekly programs designed to inspire and equip them for success.

Rebuild

Along with participating in our programs and maintaining a substance-free lifestyle, Souls Harbor residents are required to contribute 4 hours of "sweat equity" each week, attend recovery meetings, follow a curfew, pay a $50 weekly housing fee, and secure a sponsor or mentor.

Lives Changed

"I've been aware of Souls Harbor for almost thirty years, even volunteering there as a teenager. It seemed appropriate that as an adult, I ended up needing it. When I moved in I was just barely beginning to care about myself again, and Souls Harbor helped me find the tools to care about myself fully, and more importantly that other people cared as well. I have now been sober for over 15 months, and I attribute it to Souls Harbor giving me the opportunity to find peace within myself rather than looking for it in others."
